A lot of detail-level data of enterprise management information systems becomes the expired data. These overdue data not only takes up a lot of storage space, but also increases the instability of system and reduces the efficiency of system. But, we can not easily delete the data, because these data are not worthless. They are the important data source and the manipulate objects of the data mining and online analytical processing, so how to manage and store the data scientifically and effectively becomes the great challenges faced by managers.XML (Extend Markup Language) serves as an significant foundation of the research in this thesis. This thesis applies the technology of XML into the archiving of historical data in data warehouse, changing the storage mode of relational database for archiving of historical data, in the mean time, to ensure that the data are accessible, available and valid, and to avoid the inefficacy of data caused by differences of systems and platforms.There is a lot of stale data in the database, resulting in slowing the operation of system, increasing the instability of system and reducing the efficiency of data retrieval. In order to solve the problem, the purpose of this project is to design and development the historical data archiving system. According to the needs of practical applications, the overall design of this paper is JAVA+TOMCAT+STRUTS2 for the overall system architecture based on XML technology. This paper determines the archiving, retrieval and reconstruction of the three major functions, and on this basis, designs and implements of the archiving system.This article discusses the key technologies involved in the the data filing system, including the mapping method between relational schema and XML mode, the method of code turning, the problems and solutions of reconstruction of the data before and after the code compliance and XML document index search algorithm and so on. And on this basis, the overall architecture of the system is analysis and the basic principles of the functional modules and application are studied carefully.In this paper, the idea of hierarchical storage management applied to data archiving based on the original archiving strategy. The idea of hierarchical storage management applied to data archiving can improve data archiving and retrieval of data storage space efficiency. In the processing of XML retrieval functions, this article improved multi-path algorithm branch index. When the system get the results of one branch path query, it does not get the multi-path uses the index to determine the relationship between the nodes through the index table, which further determine the relationship between labels. Compared with the original algorithm, in the long query and the more query term cases, the improved multi-branch search path algorithm is more efficient.The system is in the trial running stage. The result shows that the system is in stable condition, not only safe and practical, but also operated easily. The system can greatly improved the operating conditions of the original web site content management system, improve the efficiency of the system, and enhance the security and reliability of the system. It can reduce the investment of human and material resources for data maintenance, so has the good prospects for the development and application.
