When the wind loads have the probabilistic properties, the distortion of antennaewill be random. Thus it leads to the variance of electrical performance. Therefore it isnecessary to decrease the sensitivity of performance to random loads by structuraloptimization to make antenna robust. This paper presents the robust optimal design ofreflector antenna of mechanical and electronic syntheses, which is considering therandom factor of wind loads.The paper discusses the far field pattern of reflector antenna with the surface errorbased on the mechanical-electromagnetic coupling formula. And numerical integrationapplied for computing the performance. With the effect of random wind loads, boththe distortion and the performance of reflector antenna have the probabilistic properties.The mean and variance of the reflector distortion by random factors approach areintroduced. And then the mean and variance of the performance based onelectromechanical coupling model are deduced. It is the basis of robust optimal designreflector antenna of mechanical and electronic syntheses.Then the robust optimization model of mechanical and electronic syntheses forreflector antenna is given. The mean and variance of performance of reflector antennaare considered as the objective, based on robust optimal design principle. The designvariables consist of the bar cross-sectional areas and the node coordinates of theantenna radial beams. The constraints include the structural self-weight and theelement stress of the antenna. In order to improve the robustness of the antennastructure, the proposed model is transformed by the reliability design theory.Finally, to verify the formula and optimization model, the optimization model isapplied to both the antennae with the diameters of 12 and 40 meters to obtain theintegrated robust optimal design of mechanical and electronic syntheses. Contrast withthe common synthetic optimal design on mechanical and electronic technologies, theoptimization design in this paper is more robust. The results showed that with theimpact of random wind loads the proposed method is effective and feasible.
