Along with the rapid development of the Internet technology, SIP and P2P have been applied widely, considering the advantages of SIP and P2P, how to mix the two technologies is a hot topic in current research. P2P-SIP is proposed to leverage Peer-to-Peer computing to control multimaedia sessions in a decentralized manner. The combination of P2P and SIP a strong challenge to the C / S model in current communication fields, and it will become the development trend in the future.Firstly, this thesis summarized the related technologie of P2P and SIP, studied of the functional entity, message type and architecture of SIP protocol, focused on three kinds of P2P overlay network structure based on distributed hash table (DHT): Chord, Pastry and CAN, summarizes the existing problems of P2P and SIP.Secondly, this shesis researched to two common methods of P2P-SIP combination: P2P-over-SIP and SIP-using-P2P, analysis the implementation principle and the relationship between nodes of the two methods, compared performance of these two programs in connectivity, system robustness and network maintenance cost. Finally, due to poor expansion, network heterogeneity and topology adaptation of existing P2P-SIP systems, based on the above analysis, a hierarchical structure of P2P-SIP overlay network based on DHT was proposed , it named HT-P2PSIP, and then theoretic analysis and simulation were made. The result indicates that the hierarchical approach effectively reduces call setup latency and routing hops and communication overhead compared to the flat one.
