The research work in this thesis is composed of two parts which is with the research project by the ZETC. The prototype of the base-station antenna for mobile communication system is made in the first part, and the prototype of the coupling element-based terminal antenna structure for MIMO communication system is developed in the second part.Firstly, the design method of the multi-band base-station antenna for mobile communication system is discussed. The design method of the multi-band base-station antenna is presented based on the theories of microstrip antenna and dipole antenna. A bow-tie structure is used to realize multi-band. A novel broadband antenna is proposed, which can be used as the antenna element of directional and omni-directional antenna array. Antenna is composed of curved radiating arms and ground plane. The measured results of the two prototype multi-band antennas show that the antenna is with good impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern, and that the design method is valid.Secondly, the design method of the coupling element-based terminal antenna structure for MIMO communication system is presented. The antenna structure comprises of four nonresonant coupling elements, two matching circuitries, and the chassis of the mobile terminal. A prototype antenna that the coupling elements operate with different band is made and measured. The measured results show that the isolation between the coupling elements operating at the same frequency is more than 15dB, and that the design method is valid. |
