With the development of digital video applications, video format should be changed according to the application circumstance. Transcoding is to transfer one coding format into another one, and the applicance that is used for transcoding is called transcoder. MPEG-2 is the traditional coding format for DVB, and H.264/AVC is widely deployed in digital televison and video on demand for its high compression ratio and networking adaptability. In this paper, DVB to AVC video transcoding software is designed based on TI TMS320DM642 processor.Chapter 1 briefly introduces video transcoding and DVB, AVC video coding. This chapter also includes a description of the meaning and content of this paper.Chapter 2 briefly introduces the type of video transcoder and some key technologies including the reuse of the information of motion vector and macroblock type of the inputted bitstreams, and frame skipping transcoding method.Chapter 3 discusses the structure and characteristics of TMS320DM642 processor including the system structure and characteristics of instruction bundle.Chapter 4 details the software design of the transcoder and places emphasis on the design of motion estimation algorithm and frame skipping algorithm.Chapter 5 introduces the optimization of transcoder on TMS320DM642 processor. It mainly includes the method using assembly and EDMA.Chapter 6 summarizes the realization and optimization of DVB to AVC video transcoding software and contemplates the future prospects for the development.
