With the rapid development of current computer technology, computer-based effects are widely used in lots of areas such as emulation, movies and TV games. In this paper, we present several ways to generate computer effects based on stylized samples and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) respectively. Also, we speed up our simulation with the usage of the latest GPU-based parallel computing technology. In Chapter 1, we briefly introduce current simulations of natural scenes and phenomena and their utilization. Then, we describe our work background and goals via the introduction of the related work of photorealistic rendering effects and non-photorealistic rendering effects. In Chapter 2, we present an approach for synthesizing and editing cartoon fire series based on hand-drawn samples. Our approach first extracts outlines of and-drawn cartoon fire series and, based on the central reference skeleton, synthesizes fire of arbitrary length by high level control on flame skeletons. With our approach users may edit cartoon fire series to achieve effects such as fire spreading and fire blown by wind from the side.In Chapter 3, we introduce our work on CFD-based effects generation. We first describe the background knowledge of CFD and the initialization of our input samples. Then we generate the facial effects based on both SPH method (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic) and the mesh method. In Chapter 4, we use GPU-based parallel computing technology to speed up the fluid simulation and therefore evidently make our algorithms more efficient. This part of work is based on both SPH method and the mesh method. In Chapter 5, we summarize our work, analysis its limitation and point out the possible future work.
