Research And Practice Of GIS Application Based On Open Source GeoTools

In the past recent years, with the rapid development of computer technology and Internet, the informational level of government and enterprise is being raised continuously, the application of GIS in electronic government, enterprise and public life is used more and more widely. The popular development scheme of GIS application is secondary development based on commercial GIS platform, with some defects including complicated architecture, platform dependence, inferior performance in expendability and high fees in charge. With the rapid development of open source GIS software in the past 20 years, a series of products have arisen with compatible functions and performance comparing to commercial GIS. There is a novel approach to build medium and small-size GIS application based on open source GIS toolkit, which has some advantages such as good scalability, free to use, extreme flexible function customization.This paper made an assay of GIS historical development, compared open source GIS with commercial GIS, and put emphasis on research and analysis on functions and structures of GeoTools——an open source toolkit, studied on the typical procedure of spatial data visualization in GIS with GeoTools, and designed a framework of GIS application based on GeoTools, this framework is designed in MVC model with advantages in good scalability and loosen couple relationship, it is fit for integration with other information system. Finally, it applied the framework in the realization of the development of Road Management Platform.
