US Democrats and Republicans not only dominate the domestic policy, but alsoplay a key role in diplomacy. The two parties’ policy toward China, after the Cold War,emphases different issues in different time, which highlight their different politicaltone, especially on the Taiwan issue and human rights issue, economic and tradeissues, etc. On the Taiwan issue, the Republican play its tough role as a tradition;while the Democratic party advocate freedom and democracy, which determine itsattack on China in those questions. On the economic and trade issues with China,although the two parties have different starting point, they want to protect theAmerican economy, so they require liberalize the Chinese market.The two parties different attitudes on the issue of China in order to meet the votersto compete for the ruling party status, while the essence of the two parties fight for theright is the political thoughts’ development, namely the conservatism and liberalism.But looking US policy toward China after the Cold War, the national interests is thekey, which determine US diplomacy. National interests is the foundation anddestination of a country’s diplomacy. The two parties’ policy is from US domesticinterests and seeks to maintain a strong position in the world.On the one hand, the two parties’ contest on China issues highlighting China’srising international status and its influence on the United States, on the other hand, italso highlights the importance of reasonable response the two parties’ policy towardChina. China should clear the two parties’ essence which serve capitalism, andstrengthen Communist Party of China to exchange with the two parties, then takingadvantage of the differences between the two parties to develop policies in line withour national interests, it is China’s principle of contacts with the United States.
