Sino-Indonesian partnership is an important component of China’s goodneighborly diplomacy. Particularly the relation of the two countries during the periodof Sukarno was once a model in Southeastern Asian countries and the third worldcountries, which reached its peak in1965. Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI) played ansignificant role in bilateral relationship and had been an essential motivation for thedevelopment of it. Through the review and analysis of reports about Indonesia and itsCommunist Party from the official authority media of China People’s Daily, therelationship of the Communist Parties of China and Indonesia showed differentdevelopment characteristics at the different stages of the development of the twocountries. However, contrasting with twists and turns in the development of thecountries’ relation, the relationship between the two parties had been developingsteadily and becoming intimate. The change and development of the relationshipbetween the two parties are closely concerned with the political status’ rise of PKI andpolicy ideas of CCP, besides political changes of international environment anddomestic Indonesia. The rising political status of PKI helped itself have a growinginfluence on Indonesian politics, thus PKI playing a vital role in promoting theSukarno administration being more “China-friendly” and communication andcoordination between the two governments and other issues. In dealing withinter-party relations with PKI, CCP shows characteristics of both “revolutionary” and“pragmatism”.
