Abstract/Summary:
The rapid development of Chinese economy and the depth of industrialization and civilization make many new problems appear these years. We should emphasize that how to make migrant workers get their gobs better and quicker and how to help them change their jobs reasonably. The mobility of occupation plays an important part in the mobility of our society. It is closely related to the interests of all parties, and it has a big effect not only on the process of industrialization and civilization but also on the peace of the state and the harmony of the society. It is an important issue on the relationship between urban and rural integration that whether the government can arrange the mobility of occupation well and make migrant workers live a better life in city. The thesis is from the angle of social capital and is based on the survey of migrant workers in Shan xi province. It makes an analyzation about the influence of the social capital of migrant workers on their mobility of occupation. On one hand, it is a development of the theory of social capital. On the other hand, it provides a practical guide in their occupational mobility and development. The thesis combines the theory and practice, and it designs a questionnaire survey about the influence of the condition of social capital on migrant workers’occupational mobility. The first part is introduction. It is mainly about the theory of social capital、 social network and weak relationship. Then it gives a description of individual characteristics of migrant workers. Because China is such a country which emphasizes relationship, and thousands of years of the small-scale peasant economy makes Chinese people attach importance to the concepts of family and affection, which makes migrant workers ask for help from their relationships when they need to change their jobs. Therefore, to explore the statement of their social capital and help them expand it is very significant. Next, the thesis analyzes the condition of social capital in five indicators about social network. In addition, it describes that how migrant workers use their social capital when they look for and change their jobs. Finally, it draws a conclusion that the scale of social network is relatively narrow, the top of network is generally low, the heterogeneity of network is not good, and the network is still in their close relationship. The fourth part is very important. Firstly, it is the job hunting way. Nowadays, it is neither the planned economy time, nor the plan supplemented market time, it is in market economy time. In such a era, it is significant that they look for their jobs through their relationships. By the comparison of job hunting ways, we find that it is more easier when they use their relationships. Because it helps them reduce the cost in the job searching, at the same time it also reduces their chances of ever being cheated. The fast changing of the market economy makes it impossible for them to do their job from the beginning to the end. Occupational changing is just the embodiment of the market economy. But when they plan to change their jobs, whether they want to use their relationships and how the social capital has an effect on times and direction of occupational mobility. The thesis will solve these problems later. In the end, it comes to a conclusion that we can not deny the effects of social capital, especially in market economy time. However, we should know it clearly that it is not perfect, although it helps a lot in job hunting. Because they are not satisfied with their jobs. So the government should consider the employment problems of migrant workers carefully, but most importantly, they themselves must improve their human capital construction constantly and strengthen their professional skills.
