A Review Of Studies On "China 's Exceptionalism" By International Public Opinion

Against the background of China’s rise, the discourse of “Chineseexceptionalism” has generated wide discussions. This article attempts to describe theessence and features of Chinese exceptionalism in international public opinions.Whether this exceptionalism refers to China’s unique developing mode, particularhistory and culture, its foreign policy with Chinese characteristics，or an excuse?What is the major response from the international community? The term“international public opinion” discussed in this article refers to the opinions frominternational scholars, decision makers and some authoritative media in internationalcommunity, including a part of overseas Chinese scholars.At the same time, this article seeks to exam and comments the views on Chineseexceptionalism regarding to its essence, background and attitudes, so as to evaluatethe public opinion environment China faced with. This article analyzes thebackground of Chinese exceptionalism from three aspects: cultural and historicbackground, international interaction and theoretical construction. In conclusion, thispaper intends to offer suggestions on dealing with certain environment and shape apositive international image on the other hand.
