An Analysis Of Humorous Text Discourse

This thesis analyzes the displaying mechanism of humor in language by taking humor’s text as an object of study, basing on discourse analysis.At first, this thesis study on the cohesive features of the structure in the words of humor on discourse analysis. Generally, the discourse structure of humor’s text is short; the turn-taking is less. The cohesive devices of turn-taking make the discourse focus of humor’s text concentrated and specific. The important cause of making the humorous effect is the inverse interpretation to a discourse focus of a dialogue between the two sides. Besides, deviation is the core to make a humorous effect in a dialogue. It comes from the contradiction of dialogic intersection in humor’s text. And the differences in textual cognition and logical shift between the two dialogic sides will make the arising of deviation. At last, the transition of turn-talking in humor’s text completely conforms with the transformational principle in discourse analysis. But the differences between the ways of the transition of turn-talking in humor’s text determine the two different dialogical relationship will have different understanding paths. It is difficult for the dialogue between the two sides to reach an consensus on understanding of inner-text. But outer the text, the dialogue between the two sides may pursue a consistency of understanding.This thesis provides a new perspective in this field from these three aspects to analyze the producing and understanding of humor. And it also further analyzes on the combination of the form and the meaning in humor’s text by using discourse analysis.
