The land faith has been the hot spot of the academic research for a long time and it has been discussed from multiple perspectives and areas. We will regard Baojuan in Wu dialect area as our research texts, and give great concern to the infiltration and reflection of land faith.In these texts, the land faith in the Baojuan of Land has a prominent position. So priority is given to the land faith in the Baojuan of land in Wu dialect area. On this basis, the thesis concentrates on land faith, and mainly discusses the origin.development and characteristics of the land faith in Baojuan of Wu dialect area, preliminarily showing the special performance of land faith in the Baojuan of Wu dialect area.Chapter one defines the research scope and object, pointing out that the Wu dialect area includes some districts in Jiangsu and Zhejiang province today. We divide the Baojuan in Wu dialect area into two types:the Baojuan of Land and the other Baojuan. We will give priority to the Baojuan of Land and consider the other Baojuan as well. On this basis, this chapter also gives a summarization and statistics to the images and functions of the gnome, which preliminarily shows the overview of Baojuan in the Wu dialect area.The second chapter discusses the characteristics of the gnome, mainly from the two aspects of "diversity" and "unique". In this chapter, we draw a conclusion that gnome has joined several futures together in Baojuan:the She Deity and God of the Earth, becoming a concept which has a rich connotation. Still, gnome in Baojuan also differs from the City God and the No Birth Mother, reflecting the "unique" character of itself.The third chapter compares the contemporary Baojuan in Wu dialect area with the Baojuan of Land in Ming and Qing dynasties, and mainly expounds the inheritance and development between them. The characteristic of the land faith in Wu dialect area is enhanced by comparison.The fourth chapter describes the performance and occasions of Baojuan in Wu dialect area, pointing out the functions of performing Baojuan:grateful for the land, say prayers for the soul and pray for protection, as well as summarizing the general ceremony of Baojuan.
