Opera facial make-up is a modeling art used in stage performance which is only owned by Chinese opera. The art of facial make-up vividly presents the patterned and artistic characters. With a long term development, facial make-up has not only been limited in opera, but also been a modeling element for modern design. Through the combination of modern technique of expression in design, facial make-ups with different styles in every region can be enjoyed. After merging modern creation into traditional elements, it becomes more extensive and in-depth for the application of opera facial make-up in art design. This paper explores the designing creative methods and the diversified visual representations by analyzing the existed representations of facial make-up in visual transmission design. The persuasion and vitality of facial make-up’s diversified visual representations are increased through applying the research into different practical projects like the poster design, “Opera Presenting Week of Jiangsu Drama School in 2016”. At the end of this paper, some thoughts are proposed according to the monographic teaching merged with facial make-up elements for Graphic Design of Jiangsu Drama School. In order to attract more people’s attention to Chinese traditional opera culture, this paper strives to seek as many referential contents and forms as possible. It is also hoped that this paper can make efforts to rich the diversified visual representations of facial make-up.
