The movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an adaptation of the same novel by John Boyne. This novel has won the Berkshire Book Award, the Sheffield Children’s Book Award and has selected as the New York Times’ best seller and the UK’s top ten best-selling book. Based on the novel, the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas has more subtle details and has been on the list of the British Film Academy Awards. The movie happened during World War II, which described a tragic story between Bruno, a son of a Nazi Captain, and Schmuel, a Jew. All sorts of reasons eventually lead to the tragedy of Bruno, including the sensitivity of the topic of “Auschwitz”, over-protection from the family. It is the extremely obscure dialogues which are profound and exquisite designed that make this movie a great success. Thus, based on the framework of Grice’s Principle of Conversation and Cooperative Principle, the present research attempts to make a systematic and detailed analysis of the dialogue of the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The present research will help explore the characters and the theme of the movie, and will played an invaluable role in the exploration of the artistic charm of the movie. |
