Therefore, the editorial has gradually become the main source by which people understand the policies of Party and the country and the social dynamics.As a functional style, the editorial has gradually become the object of linguists, aiming at grasping the inner meaning of editorial articles accurately and thoroughly, so as to promote the role of guidance.Functional stylistics plays an important role in the research of modern stylistics.On the basis of Hallidy’s systemic functional grammar, it regards the language as a system with the meaning potential, and analyzes the language from the angle of the social environment. The analysis of the language in the functional stylistics is more comprehensive, because it pays more attention to the relationship between the study of language system and the external environment. Analyzing the language from the three meta- functions, namely the ideational function, the interpersonal function and the textual function, is the core of Halliday’s functional stylistic analysis.Therefore, the paper, with functional stylistics and Halliday’s three meta-functions as the theoretical basis, will try to analyze the stylistic features of New Year’s Day editorial of People’s Daily from the levels of vocabulary, sentence and text, aiming at grasping the connotation of the Chinese editorials more comprehensively and deeply from a new point of view, promoting the stylistic theory to develop in depth, and finally achieving the exploration to the localization path of foreign linguistics.
