A Study On The Influence Of "Historical Records" On "Scholars"

As the first work of biographical general history in China, The History Records has always come up with infinite influence in the literature field since its publication. From the perspective of literature research, The History Records has close relations with classical Chinese novels. It not only helped the occurrence of classical Chinese novels, but also exerted profound influence on the formation, development, figure description and narration skills of the styles of classical Chinese novels. The Scholars, a famous satirical novel in the Qing Dynasty, is deeply influenced by The History Records from many aspects, because similarity and typicality exist on the creation backgrounds and creation concepts of the both monumental works. The candor and directness of The History Records are passed on to and developed in The Scholars with creativity, and The Scholars authored by Wu Jingzi came to success under the literary guidance of The History Records. Based on the above point, influence of The History Records on The Scholars shall be studied in terms of the creation cause, concepts and artistic techniques of The History Records. The author has been dedicated to collect as many background profiles as possible, put forward the own views from new perspectives on the basis of the present studies of various literary masters on the two monumental works, and help push the literary study on the influence of The History Records.The main body of this paper is divided into three parts: the first part discusses the influence of The Historical Records’ creative reason on The Scholars, which includes three sections, regarding the ancestral lore as a principle with the similar creative origins,regarding the Confucianism as a way with resonant ideology,and regarding friends as the mirror with the same infected historical thought. The second part discusses the influence of Historical Records’ creative thinking on The Scholars, which mainly focuses on four aspects, the pursuit of objective truth, the pursuit of independent innovation, the mastery of ancient and modern, and the diligence of writing. The third part discusses the influence of The Historical Records’ artistic expression on The Scholars, which is mainly from the plot design, the characterization and narrative modes to discuss the influence.
