There exists some obvious differences between Australia English and Standard English in terms of phonetic features and words. By interpreting lots of materials with typical Australian accent and making the tape scripts, the author analyzes how Australian accent and words affect English-Chinese consecutive interpreting with specific examples. Australian accent often makes interpreters feel difficult in listening and understanding process. What’s more, some indigenous words in Australia also affect interpreters’ comprehension. The thesis mainly analyzes problems such as omission and misinterpretation caused by Australian accent and indigenous words and explores some corresponding strategies to solve these problems. When interpreters meet Australian accent, they could transfer the Australian accent to the British accent by establishing a model according to the phonetic features of Australian accent. Meanwhile, interpreters could increase their listening training with materials of Australian accent by using the resources of online English accent corpora. At last, interpreters should accumulate lots of Australian simplified words and slang and in this way they could improve their ability to interpret materials of Australian English from the lexical level.
