| Comprehension is the first step for interpreting, which determines the quality of interpreting. In the daily practice, many students will meet some comprehension obstacles, including language knowledge and extra-language knowledge. On the one hand, some interpreters can not totally understand the source language for the lack of vocabulary or too much information in the content, all of which will lead to poor interpreting quality. On the other hand, cognition ability and background information are also very important part during interpreting process. After doing the consecutive interpreting of President Obama’s Weekly Address, causes of comprehension obstacles are analyzed, and corresponding strategies are provided. Student interpreter can solve comprehension obstacles in two aspects: first, enlarging vocabulary and using translation methods-sequencing, reversing, splitting for long and complex sentences. Second, the interpreter should focus on knowledge accumulation and eventually form their own encyclopedic knowledge. In addition, good preparation before interpreting will help interpreter understand theme better and alleviate pressure. The interpreter should have positive attitude for interpreting mission and develop great psychological quality. |
