A Contrastive Study Of Cohesive Devices In Chinese And English

Text is a process which the author on the basis of certain groups mechanism, using some text means to establish semantic association, as well as the readers use certain textual clues, understand and grasp the intention.according to certain logical semantic relationship.There are some characteristics in the theme selection, structure arrangement, the choice of language, the use of rhetoric for the special literature genre. In this paper, as the classic Chinese fairy tale and Grimm’s fairy tales translation in Chinese version, English version for the corpus, based on the theory of text linguistics and functional linguistics, Chinese-English fairy tale texts cohesive devices were analyzed.Firstly, on the analysis of the concepts and characteristics on Chinese-English fairy tale texts,the author discussed the characteristics of subject, structure and stylistic aspects and cohesion Chinese-English texts are classified. Secondly, this paper analyzes the grammatical cohesive devices on Chinese and English fairy tale, which including reference substitution and ellipsis devices. Among them, reference devices can be divided into three. person reference, demonstrative reference,comparative reference. Substitution devices is made up by nominal substitution, verbal substitution, clausal substitution. Ellipsis devices including nominal ellipsis, verbal ellipsis and clausal ellipsis.Thirdly, this paper analyzes the logic cohesive devices of Chinese-English fairy tale texts, which focuses on turning cohesive devices and causal cohesive devices. the logic cohesive devices of Chinese-English fairy tale texts can be divided into antagonistic, restrictive and interpretability. The causal cohesive devices is divided into reasons and results.Fourthly, this paper analyzes the devices lexical cohesion of Chinese-English fairy tale texts,including lexical reiteration and lexical co-occurrence. Finally, the article discusses the similarities and differences of Chinese-English fairy tale texts cohesive devices and studied the reasons of the formation on Chinese-English fairy tale texts cohesive devices from the language system and language cultural traditions.The research expand a new area from the compare range on Chinese-English text to fairy tale texts, the author will provide reference for Chinese, mother-tongue teaching and a second language teaching, but also provides corroboration for the Chinese-English, English-Chinese translation, and Chinese-English, English-Chinese dictionary compilation through a more detailed comparative analysis...
