A Study On Water Belief In Jiangxi Province In The Song Dynasty

With the southward movement of economic center in Song dynasty,Jiangxi province’ location advantage gradually highligh, the economic prosperity and traffic developed.The development of economy and traffic of Jiangxi province contributed to the prosperity of the belief of water traffic.There were such kind of the deities of water traffic’ temple distributed along Gan River,Poyang Lake and Yangtze River,such as Jiangdong temple,Chutan temple,Xiaoshuang temple,Shunji temple,Gongting temple,Dagushan temple,Longwang temple,Xiaogushan temple, Madang temple,etc.These beliefs had new development and change in Song dynasty.The deities broken the principle of "sacrificing is not beyond border ", go out of there cradle,spread and expand outward. At the same time,the function of these deities also become diversification.In addition to take charge of water traffic, the deities of water traffic also had the function of control rainwater and protect the country. It was affected by frequent flood and drought disasters in Jiangxi province, the turbulent situation was another factor.
