As a representative of the late 20 th century music of the Soviet Union, Shostakovich life was devoted to the development of Soviet music.Under the high pressure ruling of Stalin, make him go on a musical road stumbling,It is these ring true life experience makes his music sound more different taste.In Shostakovich’s creative genre among many, string quartet as an important part of, only with his symphonies are able to compete, but also musicians and music lovers involved in one of the largest areas, "Eighth String Quartet" String Quartet is his representative works."Eighth String Quartet" was created in 1960, is Shostakovich’s fifteen string quartets among the most famous one, it is the peak of Shostakovich to the creation of life, In this work the musicians eager to play it and also made many scholars have put into it to explore, because it is the only Shostakovich string quartet with an autobiographical work, and on this point among Shostakovich himself in a letter addressed to a friend confirmed this view.Through in-depth study of this work may be better to explore and understand Shostakovich’s inner most realistic idea and to understand the historical background and cultural atmosphere where he. Meanw hile, this work has a strong tragic, Inside five movements, each movement has a different writing techniques to express a tragic, "Signature motivation" use "Passacaglia," the use of the Russian funeral song express a very good use, etc. Tragic sense of this work, autobiographical plus tragedy make this work both full of mystery and full of color sense, this feeling is precisely show Shostakovich superb writing skills, but unlike Shostakovich Abramovich has a legendary experience inseparable relationship.This paper is divided into four chapters, the first chapter is an introduction; the second chapter is divided into two parts, the first part is to arrange the development of the entire string quartet and Shostakovich string quartets; the second part is explained the background and the value of the "eighth string quartet". The third chapter is divided into three parts, the first part is to elaborate analysisof the "Eighth String Quartet,"; second and third part are analysis the work by "signature motive" and "Passacaglia" writing technique. The fourth chapter is analysisthe "eighth string quartet" through three dimensions,artisticvalue; historic and contemporary significance.
