The confusion of how to use proper colors in Chinese Ink Painting drove me to do the research of colors. From Wang Wei’s "diluted ink method" to Jing Hao’s "method of inking", the status of ink gradually enhances, replacing the status of color. Since the Song Dynasty, the rise of Literati Painting made ink the representative of ingenious character. The heavy colored painting was denounced as Academic Painting. This change had certain relation with the times. But now, the use of ink should adapted to the times. In the information society, knowledge concepts of all kinds of information are in constant interwoven fusion. Ink and color also has the new context. From the origin of color to the analysis of color in the figurative painting of each dynasty, we can draw some conclusions:the use of color adapt with the times. Background and aesthetic of the times, the development of pigments, had an important influence on the color. Introducing part of the theories on research of Joseph Albers and Arnheim on color experiments and complementary colorstell us color is the most relative media art. And complementary color tied together. Those two opposing colors bring a sense of closure. From my painting process, I also have some experience:I think that in figure painting, reproducing the object is not the key of using colors, but typing the colors, and communicate the emotions.
