Analysis Of Ink

Chinese freehand brush painting of flowers and birds is considered as a significant part of traditional Chinese painting, in which the process of figuring and coloring is the key component to the spirit of paintings. Great figuring and outstanding coloring are both indispensable in a great painting. Figuring can either be strong or soft, while the use of pigment can be variable from thick and dark to thin and light. Combination of different styles in figuring and coloring therefore can be so unpredictable and attractive, but only the paintings that the figuring and coloring in the painting actually interact with each other can show its glory. The study of figuring is a long-term process which demands practices and dedication. This thesis is the results of my personal study in the field, the enlightenment of my professor. I have experienced mimicking others’ painting, sketching with my own style till now. I believe that this is the path we have to pass. I am always and will be passionate and patient as before, going through the processes with positive mind and brave heart, as one of my mentor used to say: what is more precious than talent is persistence.
