A Study On The Characteristics And Functions Of Prehistoric

China is a culture country with a jade using history of more than 7000 years. Among those ancient jade, jade ritual wares occupied an important position while a mysterious jade ritual ware, “Yu Bi”, always run through the Chinese jade using history and was loved by all the people. There are no characters before the prehistoric culture, and the relative records in the later ages are few. Therefore, the research on the development and function of Yu Bi in the prehistoric culture ages has significant meaning. As with the development of modern archaeological excavations, there is a host of Yu Bi of prehistoric culture ages on the nationwide which provide colorful material data for our studies.This paper fully consulted excavation reports of prehistoric tombs with a large number of unearthed Yu Bi, document literature and historical works written by predecessors and combined the specific material pictures, line drawing to have studies on the prehistoric Yu Bi. First, this article made a summary of the development of Yu Bi based on Hongshan culture, Qijia culture, Dawenkou Culture, Longshan culture, Lingjiatan culture and Liangzhu Culture which have relatively more unearthed Yu Bi and reached the conclusion that Yu Bi developed form the Hongshan culture in the northeast part of China at first. While Lingjiatan culture in Anhui province had close connection with all these cultures on not only time but also location and is the important band of connecting Yu Bi with south culture and north culture. As the rising star, Qijia culture had communications with the former several cultures due to itslocation in Huanghe River. Second, this paper concluded and cleared up the form and ornamentation of Yu Bi with prehistorical culture and unearthed in modern times. By comparing and fully analyzing Yu Bi with the same form in different districts, this paper deducted the development of and communication between six cultural ages which unearthed most prehistorical Yu Bi, reached the correct developing sequence of Yu Bi and speculate its function based on the forms. Then, this paper made summary of the unearth location and unearth form of Yu Bi at that time to ensure its functions including worshiping heaven and earth, encoffining in the burial, working as coins and tonality. Finally, by collocating designing of different materials and Yu Bi, creating and using of plastic arts in Yu Bi jewelry design and redesigning of the antique Yu Bi, this paper summarized the advantages and disadvantages of Yu Bi design and produced and made the graduation work, Days Go By, according to the lucky implied meaning of Yu Bi itself and its simple and elegant form. The work reflected Yu Bi’s function of preying safety, happiness, and beauty, used filigree enamel and other complicated traditional production technique combined with simple Yu Bi with no ornamentation. Also, the beautiful work has both fashion sense and archaic Chinese rhyme of traditional culture.The intensive research of prehistorical Yu Bi could help us have a preliminary understanding of the mysterious prehistoric processing technic and speculate prehistorical ritual culture based on the knowledge of Yu Bi’s form of which all the speculations could provide enormous help for the late research on both Chinese ritual system and China industrial arts.
