The subject of metaphor has been paid close attention to for a long period. The metaphor is no longer a simple linguistic phenomenon from the perspective of cognition; it is a way of human thinking and it can be found in every aspect in people’s daily life, which has a deep-rooted relationship with cognition. Yet it is viewed as a cognitive activity in which experiences in well-known domain are mapped onto those in less well-known domain.Based on Lakoff’s theory of Conceptual Metaphor and the previous scholars’ findings in related fields, this paper studied the conceptual metaphors in Chinese financial and trade news reports from the cognitive perspective, and found out what keywords are employed by these metaphors. A corpus-based approach is adopted in analysis. The 100 texts that are used to build the corpus are financial and trade news selected from the well-known www.chinadaily.cn. Adopting the literature, case, quantitative and qualitative methods and Lakoffand Johnson’s classification about Conceptual Metaphor, the author classified the metaphors into different categories: Structural Metaphor includes“WAR”metaphor and“JOURNEY”metaphor; Ontological Metaphor includes“LIQUID”metaphor, “BUILDING”metaphor,“MACHINE”metaphor and“HUMAN BEING”metaphor; Orientational Metaphor includes “UP-DOWN”metaphor. And then analyzed the frequency of the key words. Then the author concluded how the mapping achieved between source domain and target domain and the thinking mode of the authors worte financial and trade news as well.
