Chinese TV News Review Program Moderator Language Study

As the “announcer” of TV news commentary program, the host is the bridge between TV and audience which enables them to communicate well with each other.He not only broadcasts the contents of news, but also provides an analysis and valuable anticipation for related contents which render the audience a better understanding of what has happened.This master’s thesis combines the theory of communication science and linguistics, adopts qualitative and quantitative methods and takes the “Current Events”, “News 1+1” “Editor Time” and other available popular TV news commentaries as corpora, dividing TV news commentary programs into “single host mode” and “conversational host mode”. Using a large number of examples, the thesis demonstrates the host’s discourse structure in two modes. In terms of discourse establish, went promotion and summary, as well as the stages from star to end, the TV news commentary host combines information with commentaries and conveys relate messages to the audience, and in this sense the discourse structure is relatively serious.In addition, as a result of political and orientation features, the duty of the host is mostly the employment of appropriate communication skills and the expression of the opinions involved in the programs to the public in order to achieve the best communication effects, and to ultimately serve social effect.Therefore, the appearance of more valuable, powerful and responsible TV news commentary language, is used for monitoring social environment, guiding public opinions and interpreting social events. Hence, the study about what to say, how to say, and in what way to say is of particular scientific significance. By analyzing the host’s language, which provides comments and suggestions for the future development of TV news commentary hosts, the author hopes that TV news commentaries can move better and better on its way of development.
