Liu Chenweng is a scholar adherents with the national integrity of the transitional period of the Song and Yuan dynasties. He specializes in poetry, lyrics, prose and has a large number of commentaries, so he has an important status in the history of literature and literary criticism. Its literature and commentaries reflects his literary thought, and his literary thought turn to guide his literary creation and commentaries, the two complement each other. His criticism is different from the previous sorting, variorum, but into his emotional cognition, therefore is called the first comment master. In this paper, I study Liu Chenweng’s comments on Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, mainly including two aspects:ideological interpretation and literary criticism. In the ideological interpretation, Liu Chenweng interpreted Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s thought by Confucianism, Buddhism and mutually interpretation, trying to restore the essence of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s thought. He repeatedly stressed "the nature" thought and the characteristics of "dao" of Lao zi and free and unfettered, nature, the equality of things, inaction of Zhuang zi in his discussion. In terms of literary features, he used a unique way-conveniently notation record comments, detailed interpretation of the Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s "strange" "Painting" "taste" "truth" and in-depth analysis of the Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s article structure, metaphor technique, and the "wonderful, good, natural" style in this paper. These understanding are relatively rare in the history of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s research, and hence Liu Chenweng Created a precedent Comment of the Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. It occupies an important position in the history of the study of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, and has a profound impact to the later scholars.In addition to the introduction, the paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses Liu Chenweng himself and his works on Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, which outlines his life and creation, detailing the literary thought in his literature and literary commentaries firstly; then describes the origin of the comment, the reason why Liu criticize Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, the version of his commentaries on Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi.The second chapter discusses Liu Chenweng’s interpretation of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s thought. First of all, he expounded Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s thought by means of Confucianism, Buddhism from the long-standing traditional way. Secondly, he also interpreted Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi mutually. All these ways is to explore the essence of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s thought.The third chapter discusses the literary characteristics that Liu Chenweng commented on Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. Through a large number of comments statements, we can see that he nuanced interpretation of the "strange" "Painting" "taste" "truth" and in-depth analysis of the Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s article structure, metaphor technique, and the "wonderful, good, natural" style in this paper.The fourth chapter discusses the status and influence of Liu Chenweng’s comments on Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. Liu Chenweng created a precedent comment of the Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. Under its influence, some scholars in later dynasties is also committed to exploring the ideological origins of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi; The criticism of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi’s literary features is more detailed, exquisite beyond compare.
