Yuanqu, as a new form of poetry, gained widespread popularity in Yuan Dynasty, after Tang Poems and Song Ci. In the history of Chinese poetry, Yuanqu plays a very important role. As Wang Jingan said, Yuanqu was once a major form of literature for a certain generation, but it has not been developed or expanded by following generations since then. From the perspective of regional culture research, Hangzhou Sanqu of Yuan Dynasty plays a vital part in Yuansanqu and even in the history of Sanqu. Throughout the studies related to Hangzhou Sanqu, most scholars only mention some Sanqu which describes Hangzhou, especially Hangzhou West Lake when researching the genre of Yuansanqu. However, so far, no one has conducted specific research on Hangzhou Sanqu itself, making Hangzhou Sanqu an independent research focus out of Yuansanqu. In this thesis under the name of The Perspective of Regional Culture of the Hangzhou Sanqu Creation Research in Yuan Dynasty, Hangzhou Sanqu is addressed as the focus of the study. From the perspectives of the relationship between regional culture and regional literature, Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty is systematically researched, penetratingly exposing readers to its literary merit and research value.The thesis consists of five chapters, except the conclusion.Chapter One-Introduction has three parts. The first part elaborates the definition of Hangzhou Sanqu and the reason why this particular topic is selected. Firstly, the reasons are elaborated from two aspects-genres and regions. Then, the research value is presented. Lastly, the Hangzhou Yuanqu is defined from four perspectives, including time range, territorial scope, the categories of Yuanqu Writers and the scope of works. The second part highlights the current situation and results of research on Hangzhou regional culture, after presenting the notion of regional culture. In the third part, the present situation of Hangzhou Sanqu is detailed from three angles-the collection of texts, research on works and research on writers.Chapter Two is the overview of Hangzhou regional culture. In this chapter, the author uses time as a dimension to clearly explain how Hangzhou regional culture was formed before the Yuan Dynasty and also present the development of Hangzhou regional culture in Yuan Dynasty. The Hangzhou regional culture has been fully elaborated.The third chapter deals with interaction between Hangzhou regional culture and Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty. This chapter is developed by elaborating the interrelationship between regional culture and literature creation. First of all, the interrelationship between regional culture and literature creation is explained from theoretical point of view. Secondly, the influence of regional factors on works is expounded. To be specific, the effect of both natural and humanistic environment in Hangzhou on Hangzhou Sanqu creations has been studied. Thirdly, concerning the works, Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty is classified into two categories, one for expressing natural scenery and the other for expressing cultural landscapes. Through the interpretation of the texts of Sanqu works, the characteristics of regional culture in Hangzhou have been presented.In the fourth chapter, the author discusses the categories of Hangzhou Sanqu Writers in Yuan Dynasty and their works by using the classification method. In this chapter, writers of Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty are grouped into Hangzhou native writers, outcomers in Hangzhou and writers outside of Hangzhou. As the main body of Hangzhou Yuanqu in Yuan Dynasty, the Sanqu creations by outcomers in Hangzhou are comprehensively elaborated. Furthermore, the presented charts are used so that readers can be clearly exposed to the life and works of the Hangzhou Sanqu native writers and those writers who are outcomers in Hangzhou as a whole.Chapter Five analyzes the peculiarities of arts creations of Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty from three perspectives, including regional features, style trends, and the image of West Lake. The outstanding regional feature is shown as the intuitive artistic feature of Hangzhou Sanqu. From the Sanqu works, it seems that readers can enjoy watching the landscape of Hangzhou and cultural sites with their own eyes. The features of Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty include elegant language, rigorous rhymes, abundant literary quotations, and appropriate parallelism. Thus, the style of it is both clear and attractive. Besides, the image of West Lake with its abundant cultural connotations has become increasingly important in the Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty,In the conclusion part, a brief summary of the whole thesis is made. Also, the important role that Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty plays throughout all Yuansanqu is emphasized. The formation of all the Sanqu writers is briefly described. The peculiarity that those Sanqu writers who are outcomers in Hangzhou writers are considered as the body of all Sanqu writers is pointed out. The regional culture and literature are then mentioned again, with a brief summary of characteristics of regional culture of Hangzhou Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty. Eventually, the limitations in the thesis are presented.
