Tunhuang hand-copied "Lotus sutra"has the largest number of existing Buddhist sutras in Dunhuang and it has already been copied in Dunhuang during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. A lotof manuscripts preserved, provides a wealth of research data for us. Taisho Tripitaka is one of the most widely used Chinese versions in the research field of Buddhist sutras and Buddhism, including the Buddhist Scripture "Lotus Sutra". In this paper, we explore the types, causes and significances of the variant characters from the perspective of philology and textual criticism, with Lotus Sutra of Taisho as the master copy, and with manuscript "Lotus sutra" copied in Five Dynasty which is collected by Tianjinmuseum of art now as the collated copy. By comparing these variant characters, we can not only complement variant characters, collating errors of Taisho Tripi-taka, but also put forward rectification opinions for the compilation of the Great Chinese Dictionary.
