The artistic conception is an important component and it is the spiritual home of Chinese landscape painting. To combine this two factors appropriately is always an significant research subject. This paper focus on the artistic conception and painting techniques of Mei Qing’s landscape painting.This paper focus on Mei Qing’s landscape painting style from three main aspects: learning from the ancients, learning from the nature and self study. Hoping to revive people’s attention on the drawing method of “xuan ran”. It is a kind of basic and very important painting method. Mei Qing’s landscape painting is famous for its “peaceful”, “spacious” and “distant”, but few people study it. Many ancient painting books discussed painting methods of “gou”, “cu” and “dian”, but pay less attention on the method of “xuan ran”.This paper will discus it from the perspective of painting language rather than the aspect of culture to study the value of “xuan ran” in Chinese painting. Therefore, we can get a clear understanding of “ran”, and we can compare it with “dian”, “cun”, “gou” and many other painting methods.
