The concept of sketch is not new to those who love painting, and the same is true of Chinese painting. No only the former masters of Chinese painting but also the present students in academy of fine arts should have such an experience—— sketching in front of the mountain and going home with pencils in hand at night. Sketching is a direct and effective approach for the painter to coming close to nature, verifying tradition, experiencing life, accumulating materials, nurturing temperament and arousing inspiration. In contrast with the widely-used western way of sketching, Chinese sketching has its unique way and connotation with the time passing by. Its uniqueness lies in the respect for life and understanding of inner feeling. Deeply influenced by the traditional Chinese philosophy of the universal integration, Chinese painting pays attention to the reflection on the inner world in the early time. Chinese sketching is more than the observation and drawing of the object.Instead, it attaches great importance to the observation of natural law and inner feeling.This essay attempts to solve the psychological problems of the sketching of Chinese painting from psychological point of view; analyze the thought of Chinese classical aesthetics according to psychological theory; study the unique feeling in the sketching of Chinese painting; seek the theoretical basis of the uniqueness of the sketching of the Chinese painting; explore the mental model that helps the sketching of the Chinese painting and influence the sketching of the Chinese painting by improving individual mental model.
