Poster design is part of Japanese culture. Japan is going through its own recovery from such historical events as the World War Ⅱ,Manhattan project and the release of mortal declaration, which permeates its economy, politics and culture.this change is tremendous and makes Japan move into the spotlight of the world, so does the Japanese poster design. So the thesis is focused on it and analyze its evolution by such methods as documentary, comparative analysis, illustration, field observation and interviews. Japanese poster design became an independent programme in 1960s, thus, "practice" I mentioned in this thesis refers to designers tries through trail and error and relevant activities in that period. "Development" refers to what a concrete impact of that "practice" to the Japanese poster design and designers.I hope I can try to figure out the reason of Japanese design success through learning western advanced theory and self-examination and, understand the glamour of its unique combination of going global and remaining ethnic character. What it tells us is more than a story, but a model to our Chinese design.
