In the artistic world, music is an art form that the most adept at mobilizing feelings and expressing emotions. Chinese folk music is nourished and nurtured by thousands of years’ history and culture, becoming the sediment of the vigorous, broad national sentiments and spiritual implications. Faced with the interaction and the interdependence between cultures during the era of "globalization", the emotional expression of folk music meet with new challenges, at the meantime, nevertheless, it brings rejuvenation and development opportunities as folk music is gradually losing young audiences nowadays.The author has great enthusiasm in pipa since the learning of this instrument in childhood. Pipa, as an instrument initially coming from abroad and gradually localized, has become an instrument that can best pass on Chinese traditional culture and national emotions. However with the passage of time, the number of people who like this instrument is slowly reduced, with a key problem relying on the insufficient solution to deal with the emotional expression in the creation and the performance, so that audiences’ enthusiasm is fading due to no emotional resonance caused by the music. This paper, taking for instance pipa, intends to explore the emotional expression of folk music from the perspective of globalization. First of all, it delves into the importance of emotional expression of traditional Chinese folk music taking pipa as a case study, then emphasizing the emotional expression of music, confronting with the variety of musical influences, cannot be weakened but strengthened, under the global concepts and phenomena. Secondly, it focuses on the contents, the ways, the features and the methods of emotional expression of folk music in global vision, proposing that the contents of the national emotional expression include national emotions, personal emotions of the creators, performing emotions of the performers and emotional control and leading of the audiences on the spot; the ways of emotional expression contain music people, bands, reference of foreign music and music talent education and so on; analyzing three features of emotional expression include referring and mixing other forms, innovative and adjusting performance techniques, and importance attached to rendering a good performing environment; inducing the methods of emotional expression are accumulation, understanding and practice nowadays. No matter which the aspect is, it is essential to combine the world’s horizon, global vision and national characters. Only by grasping the opportunities of globalization, enjoying the challenges courageously, innovating and enriching the musical ideas incessantly, developing with perseverance, can emotional expression of folk music, refreshed diversely in terms of creation, style and form of performance, get perfected day by day, therefore promoting the revival and prosperity of folk music.
