A Study Of Zhang Jianyi 's Singing Art

Zhang Jianyi, a tenor singer constantly active in the world vocal music stage, is one of the best among those Asian tenors in the west. He is an outstanding lyric tenor and he is best at Italian and French opera by using the traditional way of European bel canto. As his voice is mellifluous and his performance is vivid, many opera houses from the world are attracted by him and try to work with him. By far he has been main male tenors in more than fifty of those famous opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and the National Opera House in Vienna. He has taken the West by storm for his outstanding performance and been called “the Oriental Miracle in the Western Opera stages” by the mess media. In the late 20 th century, the IBC awarded him “the Twentieth Exceptional Talent” and the Washington Post praised that he was best tenor after Domingo.The thesis will study the singing skill of Zhang Jianyi through books, audio and video files and score information. The author also tried to get some more information by interviewing relative constitution, workers as well as watching operas and concerts.The thesis consists for parts. The first part shows the study experience of music of Zhang Jianyi by illustrating his two stages of study in China and in the west respectively. The second part analyzes the singing features of Zhang Jianyi from his way of vocalization, singing skills, acoustic area processing and singing language. The last part mainly shows the thinking and prospects of our way of bel canto and opera art based on the study of the singing art of Zhang Jianyi.
