Vocal music art is the combination of music and language. Beautiful songs are based on language, the artistic conception, figure, and feelings of which are also shown by the language. It is incorrect to only attach importance to the method of phonation and ignore the language learning. A singer’s perfect performance should be with clear articulation and a mellow and full tune. When singing Shandong folk songs, Shandong dialect will show its advantage because it expresses emotions better, but when performing the other songs, Shandong dialect will affect the singer in articulation and breathing. Thus the Shandong dialect establishes an obstacle to the song learning. This paper studies the formation and characteristics of Shandong dialect, and compares the tone, initial consonant and compound vowel of Shandong dialect and Chinese mandarin. The paper also illustrates how Shandong dialect affects the performance of the Chinese songs and suggests to use mandarin tone to perform the songs. When singing Chinese songs, the singer must pay attention to the pronunciation. He or she should consider the particularity of language in the singing. The melody of the music must be in conformity with the intonation and tones of the language. When singing, the singer must control the pronunciation of the words and the pitch of the music. The pronunciation habits of Shandong dialect bring many bad effects to the performance of Chinese songs.
