The melody “Sanmenxia Capriccio”, which is written by Liu Wenjin in 1960, is one of the outstanding erhu works in contemporary music field. The work is first premiered by Wang Guotong on July 1, 1961 in the central auditorium of Central Conservatory of Music, and caused a visible sensation. Following that, it was repeatedly performed in Beijing Music Hall and widely circulated in national erhu field. The birth of “Sanmenxia Capriccio” in the 60 s of 20 th century largely promoted the development of erhu performing art and gradually turned to be a symbol of the erhu performing in the new century. “Sanmenxia Capriccio” is widely praised as paragon of erhu and piano combination. As is quoted by the famous folk musician Yang Dajun, “Sanmenxia Capriccio” is “a monument in erhu development” and “carved out the performing style of erhu art”.This article conducted the comparison analysis of “Sanmenxia Capriccio” in two aspects. Firstly, the art feature and performing style is analyzed. Secondly, the article also carried through detailed and comprehensive analysis on three artists who played this work while based on different understanding. I also took in-depth interpretation on the ideas and core message delivered by these artists, which is also the outstanding feature this article is embedded.
