The so-called Dionysian Spirit makes human being lost themselves in drunkenness, to feel the pleasure of life and to forget the pain of it, and finally achieved a integration with the world. In a word, it makes subjectivity gone in a complete self-forgetting. This article will focus on Changwei Gu’s work, in which Dionysian Spirit is fulfilled and unique, and claims that, while taking tragedy as a aesthetic objective, his work acknowledges the seriousness of life and concedes the arrangement and challenge of fate by introducing contrast between characters and reality, which brings Dionysian Spirit to confront the crudeness and passiveness of life.In his work of tragedy, he analyze the original sin and destiny of individual being by describing characters’desires and fate in reality. Those characters have to accepted the unfairness of fate and crudeness in reality, and their desires and pursues can not be fulfilled so they are suffering from their own fates. However, in such pain and destruction, they still hold insistence toward sublimity of life, which makes their doings and fate guided by Dionysian Spirit to surpass their own existences. So they can know the origin of the world and the meaning of life better. In Changwei Gu’s Dionysian illusion, the aesthetic state of tragic being, is a state that present sublime sense and powerful vitality, and in which the individual confront acolasia and bewilderment after suffering from the original sin. This state of madness can bring dying people into heavenly emotions, which is sunshine cast by Apollo’s carriage. The halo of this sunshine makes people drowning into it but covering their pains to present the appearance of beauty and to make them be able to reexamine reasons and forces that drive their lives forward. So Dionysian state and Apollonian state are combined here with strong sadness in our hearts. And that is how we get aesthetic delights from tragic arts such as film literature, music.Changwei Gu’s films are typical forms of art which are full of Dionysian acolasia and bewilderment. His works show novel and unique technique of expression to present protagonists’ Greek heroic tragedy and loneliness. Every protagonist has lived through stages of pain and tragedy and can not shake off the origin of pain even at the end of his life. But compromises and resistance of these individuals are still tragic. When audiences’painful emotion has transferred into sympathy or moving, the Apollonian spirit goes down to their deeper aesthetic consciousnesses and make them became more conscious about their realities in their states of madness. So wills and the tenacious lives of individuals can better face the cruelty of this world. In aesthetic state, this purifies audience and brings new understanding of being to those characters. This article hopes to analyze the Dionysian spirit in Changwei Gu’s work to discuss film as a new form of art to present tragedy as Greek mythology. His work might cause aesthetic state in which audiences drowning and by which they can be tamed as film’s followers. So this article hopes to analyze the Dionysian Spirit in Changwei Gu’s work on the basis of aesthetic theory of F. Nietzsche. This will discover the tragedy aesthetics in Changwei Gu’s work sufficiently and bring us the experiences and technique in creation of his film.
