With the diversified development of the art of painting, Chinese landscape painting is no exception. As a unique painting style of China, Chinese landscape painting has important research value in both Chinese and foreign art history. The decoration of Chinese paintings is also a time-honored art. Emerged in the Period of Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, Chinese landscape painting kept on developing and evolving. Finally, its theoretical system and painting rules have been taken shape, matured and endowed with the connotation of Chinese traditional culture. As a branch of Chinese painting, Chinese landscape painting is characterized by beauty of temperature and interest in terms of ink, shape and composition.Decoration is the basic language of art. It is used to reflect the artistic beauty of objective things, and is employed in various painting works. It is an expression way to concentrate and sublimate the natural image.First, this paper gives an overview of the decorative language and expounds on the artistic characteristics of the traditional decorative paintings. Proceeding from the Chinese landscape paintings, this paper studies and analyzes the decoration language of Chinese landscape paintings from four perspectives, namely composition, color, modeling and techniques. By expanding the decorative language of Chinese landscape paintings, it emphasizes on the control and proper use of decorative language in Chinese landscape paintings. The research purpose is to improve people’s aesthetic awareness, increase their understanding of ancient Chinese landscape paintings and promote the innovation and development of modern landscape paintings through the study of the characteristics of the decorative language in Chinese landscape paintings.
