Presupposition originated from philosophy. At the end of the 19 th century, German philosopher Glottlob Frege first brought the notion of presupposition from his article“On Sense and Reference†During the next half a century, many linguists paid attention to this topic; they considered this language phenomenon as a semantics problem. As study progresses, more and more linguists are studying the presupposition in pragmatics. So we can conclude that it’s not only a semantics problem but also a pragmatics problem. In recent years, it has become controversial that when disputes arise concerning the phenomenon usage, some linguists consider it as semantics, other linguists consider it as pragmatics. However, more and more linguists study these language phenomena as interface problems. So, this article studies the meaning of presupposition phenomenon of Semantics-Pragmatics interface problem from Neo-Gricean perspective. Concluding the Neo-Gricean Theory which discusses the natural language meaning, then we will use it to illustrate the semantic-pragmatics interface meaning which engendered presupposition by lexical presupposition trigger, structure presupposition trigger and phonetic presupposition trigger. |
