Neutral tone is one of the characteristics of Chinese speech and also a sound-altering phenomenon. It is important for the Chinese language learners to study and master the neutral tone in order to improve both the written and oral Chinese when they learn Chinese as a second language. Many Chinese language learners who are at the intermediate or advanced level are still not familiar with neutral tone, although they have already masterd the phonology of Chinese. Most words with neutral tone will be read with their original tones or other tones, which happens a lot to the Chinese language learners. Such, of course, is the case of Russian students. The auther, using MiniSpeechLab, analyzes how the Russian and Korean students do in learning the neutral tone of disyllable words in Chinese and compares the data of this experiments. At last, the author makes a summery of the biased errors in their learning of the neutral tone of disyllable words, analyzes various causes of these biased errors and puts forward a feasible teaching plan.
