On The Image Of Foreigners In Ancient Chinese Novels

The literary life of Guhua beginning from the 1960 s,and enter mature period in1980 s.So much novels of Guhua such as The Lotus Town,Stupa Ridge,The Cabin Covered With Vines have caused a great sensation in the literary critical world in that period.Guhua is good at descriptions the life he knows,and depicting the life of Xiangnan world with the realistic way.If we treat the Xiangnan world in Guhua’novels as a Closed-in space,then we can found there is a special group called‘outsiders’ in it.There are different from native on region and culture.Guhua keen to show the clash,dispute and contradiction between them and native in some novels which relate to the ‘outsiders’.Categorize the ‘outsiders’ and treat them as a whole is good for us to fully understand the creative idea and connotations of Guhua.The thesis included five parts.Part I,shortly introduce Guhua’s writing affairs and summarized predecessor’s research results.Sorting these achievements will help us to understand the contemporaneity,political implication and limitation his novels,while also find out the blank space in research field.Part II,classify the‘outsiders’ in different novels by their functions.The outsiders are scattered in many novels,thought they were all as the outsiders,we can found different outsider had different function and effect in different novels after study.So,according to these diverse functions,we divided outsiders into three types,redeemer,reformer and mediators.Part III,explore the deep meaning behind different kinds of ‘outsiders’ on the basis of part II..Through the views of outsiders,the writer show us the living conditions and spiritual outlook of local people.Through building the images of redemption,The writer tries to show us the back-word ignorance and poverty of xiaoxiang region,and exposes destructive power and harmness of the cultural revolution.The conflict between conservatives and reformers not only reflects that it’s difficult to make a reform in xiaoxiang land,but also expresses the people’s urgent wish of development.In short,the different implied meanings in different outsiders represent writer’s review and reflection about the cultural revolution and the clash between civilization and ignorance.Part IV,analyze how many kinds of the artistic techniques were been used to create the ‘outsiders’ in Guhua’novels.Part IIV,I’ll study the significance and shortcoming of the ’outsiders’ in Guhua’novels.
