The Image Of Beijing In Lao She 's Literary World

This thesis selects Beijing image in Laoshe’s literature world as the research perspective to analyze Laoshe’s works in a deeper administrative level and replenish the gap in this academic field and the Beijing image is divided into two aspects: material culture image and figure image and this thesis analyzes the figure image mainly. Because of Laoshe’s own experience, this thesis regards time as the narrative clue and Laoshe’s works were divided into two parts: before China was founded and after China was founded. And this thesis has three parts:In the first part, this thesis will analyze Beijing image in the works which were written by Laoshe before China was founded. Also before China was founded Laoshe had been to the British to teach so that Laoshe’s works were divided into writing in foreign countries and in his own country. When living in the foreign countries, Laoshe modeled the Beijing image in a memorial perspective and objective attitude. After returning to China, Laoshe witnessed the all kinds of misfortune of the Chinese people and at the same time Laoshe generated the same feeling like Luxun because of national deep-rooted bad habits. Here Laoshe wrote the weak city in traditional culture perspective and lashed the national deep-rooted bad habits with humorous words.In the second part, this thesis will reappear the Beijing image in the works which were written in the belief of writing for the policy and national people after China was founded and analyze the writer’s inner mind. With the influence of the red passion Laoshe wrote a number of works which adapted to the policy such as <longxugou> and <quanjiafu>. However, his inner mind had contradiction with the policy, after choosing to return to his own mind, Laoshe wrote <chaguan> and <zhenghongqixia>, this thesis will unscramble and analyze Beijing image in these works.In the third part, this thesis will discuss the value of Beijing image in Laoshe’s works. After analyzing the generality between Beijing image and China image, this thesis will analyze the peculiarity of Beijing image. Beijing image is the important composition of China image and has the similar characteristics with the China ones. What should to be say is the particularity of the Beijing image. Laoshe’s works has not only national character but also worldwide value. In fact image is a mirror which should be shown to the outside and help the others to understand the city or the country better. The analysis from the inner to the outsider can help grasp the writer’s vein and intention in his writing. The analysis of Beijing image will help explain Laoshe’s writing more comprehensive and the connection between history and text will make the explanation have more period feel and historical feel.
