| This thesis mainly consists of two parts:translation of female writer Zhang Ling’s novella The Lilac Lane, and analysis of its adopted translation strategies for achieving ideal effect. The Lilac Lane depicts the life of Chinese overseas students after the1980s with vivid wording, and perfectly combines the characteristics of Shanghai culture. This thesis starts with the importance of translating such a literature work, then elaborates the guiding principles and standards during the translation-Fu Lei’s theory of spiritual resemblance and Qian Zhongshu’s theory of sublimity. This thesis also concludes that given the differences between Chinese and English language and culture, translation strategy of this work requires special attention to three aspects:words and phrases, sentences and paragraphs, and the use of annotation. |
