No accumulation of steps, can’t lead to thousand miles. No integration of streams, can’t result in seas and oceans.It is not easy to make it clear about what is Chinese painting since it was given a variety of identities and understanding as a tradition. It seems that people never stop discussing about Chinese painting reformation, contemporary Chinese painting and the change of Chinese art trend. So what we should do with these problems? To follow the tradition, or to see them in an open way? Maybe everyone has his own thinking about it. The reason why we go back to the tradition is not only to develop it, but to solve problems we are facing at present by understanding of our past, to find what we are lacking and owing, and to figure out what kinds of art pieces are expressive and charismatic.In my research area, material is a kind of media that push Chinese painting to a firm and spirituality stand in the context of globalization with collision of different cultures and thinking. Comprehensive material has great potential nowadays. The technique is the foundation of art expression and the development of material technique is a combination of era spirit and self awareness. From my own perspective and experience, especially the process I went through from trying all kinds of material to mainly focusing on soil, I would like to clarify my study insight along with my creation journey in CAFA.
