Linglin, Hunan, has been famous for its underglaze colours porcelain since the early20th. It owned to Xiong Xilin, who broungt an innovation to porcelain production in1905. This innovation, making Liling able to produce fine porcelain and underglaze colours, was such a glory in the history of modern Chinese ceramics.This paper, starts from the point of view of the history of Ceramic to explore Liling porcelain technology development and innovation. The article focuses on Xiong’s measures as advocating ceramic school and founding company to improve Liling porcelain in the Late Qing, analysising the resources, social environment and historical background affecting the development of Liling porcelain, and examining the entire process, the results and impact of the porcelain reform. Undergalze colours as the core, this paper also analysis its technical origins, features and its cultural, historical and artistic value, so as to clear the significance of the porcelain reform and Liling Kiln’s status in the modern history of Chinese ceramics.
