| In the present age, human beings have been stepping into microcosm, the new expanding territory of vision limits, which develops visual formsbeyond people’s imagination. The combination of art and science hascontributed to the realization of graphical images of microscopic horizon. As a visual medium, these images have revealed the nature and informationof micro-objects and their own forms of aesthetic senses have become thesources of inspiration for designing creative materials. Moreover, thiskind of experimental activity has also been regarded as the design approachwhen current art design pursues trends by exploration. This paper aims to follow the design process of micro-images and servesas a discussion on the diversity of the formation of microscopic horizonimages. A series of creative approaches with manifestation are attemptedto be found through scientific principles and visual laws; then this kindof structure, form, order and element would be re-expressed, replaced, imitated and constructed into the transformed innovative visual language. It is considered as “design research based on process†or “designresearch of rule generation†rather than an experimental study onmicro-images.This paper consists of four parts. The first part is about thedemonstration of micro theme, which describes the components of matter andhuman discovery of microcosm in brief. The second part gives an inductionto microscopic horizons by image description and detailed explanation tofour visual limits: intangible place, the secret under microscope, traveling to the past and perspective of time and space. The third partmainly discusses the visual representation property of micro-images toanalyze the visual feelings and emotions that people might have. Theinfluence of multiple factors of modern society to the development ofmicroscopic vision, such as modern visual culture, art aesthetics, microcosmic science and fractal theory, are also mentioned. The fourth partemphasizes on four comprehensive cases as research samples, from theperspective of different image formations, discusses the manifestation, technical methods and procedural principle of works in depth. In this waythe design enlightenment of imagination and innovation could be providedfor current experimental creation. |
