| In the history of art there have been many who have created fascinating work. The creator of these works is one of a kind and very unique. All artists eventually parish but they leave behind a legacy that can be seen and understood through their art work. An artist’s personality and experiences are what makes the art work come to life and tell the story of the artist. Every artist has their own world in which they work. In this individual universe an artist can create almost anything, even works that differ greatly from the artist’s traditional style. The art work and artist are both dependent on each other and they need each other to survive, much like how a fine meal cannot be fully enjoyed without a delicious beverage. Merely taking a quick glance at a piece of art is not enough to fully comprehend and understand both the art and the artist behind it. If you can properly discuss the art work with full understanding then you should only spend your time discussing the price, because that is all you will truly be able to comprehend. Only when you get to know an artist can you truly make sense of the message and theme of the art work that stands before you. For example, if you hold a normal cup in your hand, it has no special meaning to you. It is just a boring cup with a handle. But if you learn that the cup was made by a famous artist then you suddenly begin to gain more appreciation for the cup and you start to look at the cup as more than just a cup, now it is art. A piece of artwork by itself is just a thing. Just a lifeless object that holds little or no value or meaning to the world. But when you start to understand the origin of the artwork, then you will feel the true inspiration of the art. Personality and individual qualities are the most important factors when studying an artist and his work. When you compare people to art, people are almost always more interesting. Therefore it is essential to understand the artist. Art belongs to the individual but the career belongs to society. A contemporary artist doesn’t follow traditional habits of hiding off in far away lands while working in seclusion. Instead they now use art to express how people think and express people’s ideas and bring their potential out of them. To be an outstanding artist one must not only have a great work ethic but must also have an understanding for where you live, when you live, and who you live with. All of the amazing art that is in the world today is a gift from past generations that makes us all intellectually wealthy. In this paper I will discuss the relationship between an artist and his art work and whether one is more important than the other. There are four chapters in this paper. I will dissect the artists personality, their influences, and my own personal experiences with creating my own art and style. |
