As is known to all, distinguishing false has deep roots in the academic research. Mencius’sopinion is “The letter kills, but the spirit gives life”. Liu Xiang and Liu Xin who are father-childrelationship were the earliest to focus on it. Academic scrutiny has never been stopped for morethan2,000years, although with the change of social ideology it’s highs and lows appearalternately. Until Qing dynasty, there is a large number of professors in academic scrutiny, andone of the most representatives is Cui Shu. He verified and identified much about Chineseancient history as well as classical books in his masterpiece Kao Xin Lu, which has a far-furtherinfluence on academia, so that Li Xueqin put forward the slogan “transcending the historicalskepticism” because ancient doubting trend was close to being overrun in the1990s.Consequently, it resulted in reconsidering Chinese ancient history and classical literature. Moreover, Cui Shu was paid more attention by many other scholars.Cui Shu also took a skeptical attitude towards The Analects--one of the classics in China. It’s as same as “The Bible” and the value is self-evident. The study of The Analects plays anabsolutely important role on researching ancient classics. Cui Shu distinguished its true or falsefrom different perspectives and finally proposed several problems in his book, for instance: onlyZi Zhang which recorded disciple’s deeds and actions, was not suspected at the five texts fromthe bottom; on the contrary, there are too much suspicion on The Jis, Yang Huo, Wei Zi, YaoSpoke; there are one or two chapters which is occasionally dissimilar with others at the late of thefirst fifteen texts; and there are different types of writing in around ten texts. On account of thearchaeological discoveries and handed-down documents at present, those problems raised by CuiShu and many research methods are worthy of being discussed again. The study of Cui Shu’sideas and the recognition for The Analects contribute to better understanding as well as inheritingThe Analects for us.About how to realize Cui Shu’s thoughts and rediscover The Analects, methods is the mostsignificant. In recent years, the underground archaeological findings, particularly such as Fuyangbamboo slips of Han Dynasty, Dingzhou bamboo slips of Han Dynasty, Ma Wang Dui Tomb silkbooks of Han, Guodian bamboo slips of Chu, the Chu bamboo slips of warring states Collectedby Shang hai Museum, not only can add to research materials of Confucius and The Analects, butcorrect errors in previous research.
