During the period from late1970s to the outset of1980s, local realism painting trendthemed by depicting rural life prevailed in China for a time. As one of representative painters ofAmerican realism painting during such period, Andrew Wyeth’s works had exerted significantinfluence to some Chinese painters; of which, lots of painters referred to the artistic form ofWyeth and attempted to imitate him.Taking the influence of Wyeth’s art in China as main research object, and “Ai Xuan” and“He Duoling” who are deeply influenced by Wyeth as the case, this paper expounded on theissues including the characteristics of “Wyeth trend” creating style represented by them andtheir correlations with Wyeth. Meanwhile, it discussed on the cause of prevailing of “Wyethtrend” in China. Starting from the comparison between the works of such two painters and thatof Wyeth, it mainly combined domestic historical background and subjective factors to furtherdeeply understand the essence of “Wyeth trend” phenomenon and discuss on the cause ofoccurrence of “Wyeth trend” phenomenon in China. It is elaborated in four parts. The first partmainly introduced the publications and exhibitions of Chinese arts circle at that time related toWyeth, as well as Chinese oil painting circle influenced by Wyeth. It mainly enumeratedphenomena to illustrate the extent of Wyeth hot. The second and third parts are the highlights ofthis paper, which mainly expounded on the influence of Wyeth to Chinese painters taking AiXuan and He Duoling as the case and the process of integrating artistic style of others to theirown paintings. From the aspects such as the artistic characteristics of Ai Xuan and He Duoling,Wyeth graphical representations in artistic works, and the similarities and differences withWyeth works, it expounded on the artistic deduction of Ai Xuan and He Duoling to Wyeth. Thefourth part attempted to discuss the emergence cause of “Wyeth trend” phenomenon in Chinafrom the angles of emotional resonance and unique expression form combining with objectivefactors including domestic specific historical background.
